ONS Open Geography Portal publishes 3,478 open datasets for United Kingdom. Browse them live in Vizzie and turn any one into a map or chart.
ONS Open Geography Portal is the open-data portal for United Kingdom. It runs on ArcGIS Hub, Esri's open-data platform for geographic data. You can browse it directly at geoportal.statistics.gov.uk. Reuse terms are set out in the portal's terms of service (OGL v3.0 for digital boundaries, reference maps and lookups. Two caveats carried from the licence page: OS-derived products require the 'Contains OS data © Crown copyright and database right [year]' statement alongside the ONS one, and Northern Ireland postcode data (BT postcodes, in the postcode products) needs a separate commercial licence direct from Land and Property Services.).
On ONS Open Geography Portal, most datasets here are clearly licensed — only a small share are undeclared. It's important to know that "no licence declared" is not the same as public-domain or free-to-use. Undeclared data carries no explicit permission to copy, adapt, or redistribute it — so reusers should treat it cautiously and check with the publisher before relying on it. Vizzie flags each dataset's licence (or its absence) so you can see this before you build.
Of the 3,028 datasets here whose licence Vizzie can identify, essentially all of them can be used commercially. Attribution is required by almost every open licence — Vizzie writes the attribution line for you when you export or publish.
Added 15 Sep 2026. 3,478 datasets verified live. The UK join spine: GSS-coded boundaries and lookups matching the LSOA/LAD/CTYUA levels already seeded in reference_geographies.
